On the 11th August at 11:11am, Dubliners witnessed a once in a lifetime event. The view of the Eclipse from the Papal Cross in the Pheonix Park was clearly one of the best in Ireland and the UK. While Cornwall viewers saw 100pc of a dark cloudly sky, people at the Dublin Landmark enjoyed an almost uninterrupted view of the 93pc eclipse. Against all the odds, Dublin had only light, broken cloud which made viewing the eclipse a very thrilling experience. One which, I for one, won't forget.
Hundreds of people arrived at the viewing area around the Cross, for information and clear views of the sun during the eclipse, presented by Astronomy Ireland. They had set up telescopes which reflected images of the solar eclipse for eveyone to see. They also had the sun filters needed to watch the event as looking directly at the sun can damage the eye.
